UNDERSTANDING THE RESULTS

✓ Green Success Message:
“You can achieve this target with any passing grade!”

  • Your current grade is already high enough

ℹ Blue Info Message:
“You need at least X% on your final exam.”

  • This is an achievable target

⚠ Yellow Warning Message:
“This target may not be achievable (requires grade above 100%)”

  • The required grade exceeds 100%, but you can still try your best

🚫 Red Error Message:
“Total weight exceeds 100%”

  • Check your weights – they should add up to 100%

TIPS

  • Always ensure your weights add up to exactly 100%
  • The calculator works backwards from your target to find the required grade
  • Use this tool for planning and motivation
  • If the required grade is above 100%, consider adjusting your target
  • Letter grades are automatically converted to percentages
  • The calculator updates as you type

WEIGHT CALCULATION

The formula used is:
Required Final = (Target × 100 – Current × Current Weight) / Final Weight

Example:
Target: 90%
Current: 85%
Current Weight: 70%
Final Weight: 30%
Required = (90 × 100 – 85 × 70) / 30 = 104.17%

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • If you see “Error: Total weight exceeds 100%”, check your weight values
  • Make sure all percentages are between 0 and 100
  • In letter grade mode, select valid letter grades from the dropdown
  • If the calculator shows “–“, enter all required information
  • Negative results mean you’ve already exceeded your target
